accident on I-55 southbound, just south of the weigh scales near

stayed with the MSHP officer through the entire ordeal (At one point,
the officer asked 220 for his assistance regarding the appearance
of the individuals). As it turned out, there were two people in
the vehicle, one female and one male. The female was driving and
apparently hit a barbed wire fence somewhere in the area of I-55,
but attempted to leave the scene. The male passenger hit his head
during the accident, but didn’t require medical attention.
The vehicle had to be towed. The female driver got a summons for

May
27, 2004 - 8:00pm - Some severe storms rolled through the area earlier
in the evening. Unit 220 was first on the scene of what was initially
called out as power lines on a vehicle. Unit 220 instead assisted
a Jefferson County Sheriffs Deputy with closure of Old Sugar Creek
Road about 400 yards south of Schumacher Rd in Jefferson County
due to downed power lines and a large pine tree that had fallen
onto a stretch of roadway. Ameren/UE arrived about 9:30pm but power
had not yet been fully restored to all residents in the area. By
11:30pm, power had been restored to most residents that lived in
the area. 220 contacted Jefferson County dispatch and informed them
that he would have to leave shortly and someone would have to come
take his place soon. Nobody came. 220 called back at 12:30am and
told the dispatcher he was leaving and that the street would be
opened up to traffic (even though the power lines were still across
the roadway and the tree was still blocking the road). He suggested
that public works be contacted and sent out to the location with
signs stating that the road was closed. It is undetermined what
happened once 220 left the area.
