1, 2003 - 3:50pm - Unit
#65 was driving his grandmother home when they came upon a car stalled
in the middle lane of eastbound Highway 30 over I-270. 65 stopped
behind the car and turned on his arrow stick to divert traffic around
the vehicle. 65 approached the vehicle and saw a female driver talking
on a cell phone. She told 65 she was trying to get a tow truck.
65 feared that she would take a long time doing this so he called
the Sunset Hills Police and they dispatched an officer to the scene.
65 remained behind the stalled car until the officer pulled up behind
him and then 65 pulled away to let the officer handle the scene.
It was a routine call for 65 but it gave his grandmother her excitement
for the day.

1, 2003 - 8:40pm - Unit #220 stopped to check on a motorist on the
shoulder of eastbound I-64 just east of Ballas Rd. The female driver
told 220 she had a flat tire and was waiting for her husband to
arrive to change it. 220 told her he would wait behind her and assist
her husband when he arrived since the flat tire was on the left
side of the car. While waiting, unit #65 (with unit #02 riding along)
pulled up behind 220 to assist. When her husband arrived, 220 pulled
his truck partially into the right lane to shield them as they changed
the tire. 65 pulled to the left also and turned on his arrow stick
to get cars out of the right lane. Fifteen minutes later the tire
was changed and they were on their way. They thanked 220 for stopping
to help.

1, 2003 - 9:45pm - Unit #65 (with unit #02 riding along) and unit
#220 stopped to check on two cars on the shoulder of northbound
I-270 just south of Highway 21. There were two men and a lady with
the cars when 65 and 02 pulled up. 220 stopped a few hundred feet
back because they were just over the crest of a hill. The lady was
very upset and scared. She told 65 she didn't know the two men and
wanted them to leave. She stated she had called the Highway Patrol
and her boyfriend and was waiting for either of them to arrive.
65 asked 02 to get out of the car and help him ask the men to leave
to calm the lady down. 65 and 02 thanked the men for stopping to
help and told them they would handle the scene. The men left without
incident. 65 and 02 waited with the lady and learned she was once
with REACT and felt very safe once 65, 02, and 220 showed up because
she knew what the organization does. A few minutes later a Missouri
Highway Patrol Officer arrived on the scene. 65 explained the situation
to him and he thanked 65 and 02 for stopping. 65, 02, and 220 then
left the scene.
