27, 2003 - 6:30am - Unit #02 took a detour on his
way to class to help with a large fire in Granite City, IL (northeast
of downtown just across the river). The fire started around 4:40am
and was still burning strong when 02 arrived. A large 100 year old
warehouse, the size of one city block, was burning. The fire was
drawing a large amount of spectators to the scene. 02 arrived on
the scene and an Illinois State Trooper told 02 to turn around the
cars at the perimeter they set up around the building. 02 stayed
for over 2 hours until the morning traffic had died down and he
was no longer needed. He then continued on his way to class. The
fire was brought under control later in the day and burned throughout
the evening.
