5, 2003 - 8:50am - Unit #12 was driving eastbound on I-64 in Ladue
when we saw a three car accident in the left lane. 12 was in the
middle lane and going 50mph so he couldn't stop in time. He saw
shattered glass all over the road so he called 911 and notified
the police about the accident. He then called MODOT and notified
them about the accident so they could send one of their emergency
services motorist assist trucks to the scene.
May
8, 2003 - 8:15pm - Unit #02 and 65 stopped to assist two cars on
the exit ramp from southbound I-55 onto Meramec Bottom Rd. One car
was turned around to jump start the other when 02 and 65 arrived.
02 walked up to the driver and he told 02 they just got the car
going and were about to leave. 65 pulled out and blocked the exit
ramp with his lights on while the wrong way facing car turned around
and continued on his way.

May
8, 2003 - 9:00pm - Unit #65 stopped to check on a motorist on northbound
I-270 just south of Highway 30. The driver told 65 he needed to
just let the engine cool awhile and he would be able to start it
again in about 30 minutes. 65 decided to wait behind the motorist
with his lights on because there was a narrow should where the driver
had stopped and a blind curve behind him. 65 called unit #220 over
the radio to come and assist. 220 arrived about ten minutes later
and stopped about 100 yards behind 65 with his lights on and gave
traffic advanced warning to slow down as they came around the curve.
After awhile, the driver was able to start the truck and he was
on his way.

May
8, 2003 - 10:00pm - Unit #65 and 220 stopped to assist a motorist
on southbound I-270 just north of Big Bend Rd. The driver told 65
he had a friend on the way to help him. 65 and 220 waited behind
the driver until his friend arrived about five minutes later in
a truck. They hooked a tow cable up to the car and towed the car
away.

May
23, 2003 - 11:40pm - Unit #220 attempted to assist a motorist out
of fuel on I-55 north of mile marker 41 in Illinois. Illinois State
Police had already checked the vehicle and had taken the driver's
husband to a nearby gas station. Unit 220 stayed with the vehicle
until they returned.
May
24, 2003 - 8:25pm - Unit #220 heard conflicting reports of a jack-knifed
tractor trailer in the vicinity of mile marker 188 on eastbound
I-70. 220 was in the area and checked with truck drivers on CB Channel
19 for clarity. He found that the accident was on the eastbound
side but at the 185 instead. 220 found the accident with a MSHP
trooper just seconds behind him. 220 kicked on his lights and slowed
down but since the Trooper was behind him he kept driving west past
the accident to an area where he could turn around. 220 turned around
in the median between the 185 & 188 mm and headed east. 220
stopped his truck within 20 feet of the rig and pulled out his reflective
cones. Three Montgomery County Sheriffs Deputies came about 45 secs
after and another MSHP Trooper was on scene about 3 minutes later.
Jonesburg Fire Department came out but there was nothing they could
do (even though the rig had a diesel fuel spill) and so they left
after 15 minutes. 220 stayed at the scene until 10:00pm and the
MSHP Trooper thanked him for coming out and assisting.
May
24, 2003 - 11:00pm - Unit #220 assisted a stranded motorist with
a flat tire on I-64 east of Spoede Rd. Two minutes later a vehicle
hydroplaned around 220's vehicle and the vehicle he was assisting,
skidded off the road, and went into an enbankment about 100 yards
further east. Unit 220 called Frontenac Police, alerted them of
the accident and checked on the driver. No ambulance was needed.
May
25, 2003 - 12:20pm - Unit #220 assisted a motorist who had accidently
locked his keys in the car when he went to check on vehicle noises
coming from the rear. A friend came by 20 minutes later with the
spare keys and the motorist left the scene.
May
25, 2003 - 2:35pm - Unit #220 assisted a stranded motorist on I-64
at the north/south split to I-270. The driver lost his transmission
and the truck had to be parked at the split because there wasn't
enough shoulder. 220 gave the driver his list of tow truck companies
but there was no luck in finding someone to come out. He then contacted
Town & Country Police to inform them that the truck would be
parked for a while. The motorist thanked 220 for stopping.
May
26, 2003 - 9:30pm - Unit #220 stopped for a stranded motorist on
I-270 south of Clayton Rd. The driver was out of gas and Town &
Country Police took him to a nearby service station down the road.
220 waited for them to return and helped by waving traffic away
from the shoulder for the driver's own protection. The police officer
thanked 220 for the assist.
May
28, 2003 - 8:30pm - Unit #220 heard a report of a stranded motorist
on I-64 at the Spoede Rd exit and went to investigate. Frontenac
Police were on the scene at about the same time 220 showed up. The
motorist was moving from Wyoming and heading to Florida when the
vehicle overheated. 220 checked the radiator for proper fluid levels
and offered some anti-freeze because the level appeared low. Since
there wasn't any acceptable lodging or repair shops open along I-64
between this location and downtown for the remainder of the night,
220 offered to follow the driver to Illinois to an area where both
problems could be dealt with by the next morning. 220 followed the
driver to McKnight Rd. when the problem with the radiator resurfaced
again. 220 suggested that the driver follow him to Brentwood Blvd
to Dobb's Auto. The driver followed and drove over there but he
still had one final problem; finding a place to stay for the night.
220 then offered the use of his cell phone to the female driver
so that she could call whomever she needed to find a place to stay.
Unknowing to 220, the driver had contacts within the Mormon Church
so she contacted the local diocese here in St. Louis and they got
her in touch with someone that could help them out. The driver thanked
220 for his assistance and gave him her business card.
May
30, 2003 - 11:40pm - Unit #220 was on his way home when he spotted
a stranded motorist on the on-ramp from I-64 to I-270 southbound.
The driver had a flat tire on the passenger side of the vehicle
and could not undo one of the lug nuts with his tire iron. 220 went
to his truck and pulled out his 4-way tire iron for the man and
hoped it would do the job. The lug nut was freed and within a few
more minutes the driver was on his way home.
May
31, 2003 - 12:20am - Unit #220 was still on his way home when he
noticed a stranded motorist near the entrance to his exit. 220 got
out of his truck and went to see what the trouble was. The owner
stated that he had just filled up with gas and somehow the carbuerator
got flooded while he was driving. 220 waited in his vehicle behind
him with his lights on until the driver got the vehicle started
and drove off.
