March 2003 Highway Reports

March 7, 2003 - 11:30am - Unit #02 was in the drive thru of a Rally's restaurant in downtown St. Louis when he heard someone yelling "Help! Call an ambulance!". 02 got out of his car and ran around the corner of the building, where the voice was coming from, and saw two teens with skateboards. One teen was laying on the ground with a very obvious broken leg. 02 kept the teen still and called for an ambulance. He stayed with the teen until the ambulance arrived and took him to the hospital. 02 then got back into his car and got the food he had ordered.

March 7, 2003 - 12:15pm - Unit #02 was exiting onto Bowles Ave. from westbound I-44 when he noticed a traffic jam and a tow truck with its lights on ahead of him by the traffic signal. As he got closer he could see a stalled car behind the tow truck blocking the right lane. He also noticed a police officer standing next to the tow truck attempting to stop traffic for the tow truck driver. 02 did not see a police car and neither did the other motorists so they were just driving around the officer and honking at him. When 02 got up to the tow truck he turned on his lights and blocked the lane for the officer. He remained there for a minute until the tow truck driver hooked up the car. As 02 was driving away he saw where the police officer had parked his car. It was in front of the tow truck so no one could see the car or the red and blue lights until after they passed it.

March 16, 2003 - 9:25pm - Unit #220 assisted a motorist with a flat tire on I-270 south of Highway 30. The motorist (and his family) were in route back home to De Soto, Missouri when the tire blew. 220 assisted with a flashlight and his vehicle warning lights to warn oncoming traffic.

March 24, 2003 - 7:30pm - Unit #220 assisted a motorist with a flat tire on westbound I-44 east of mile marker 111. 220 was traveling to Branson, Missouri when he noticed a vehicle pointed eastbound on I-44 with it's hazard lights on. 220 decided to check on the vehicle since it was dark out and wanted to make sure there was nobody inside the vehicle waiting for help. Two adult females and their children were in the vehicle and there was a flat tire on the driver's side. 220 first offered a cell phone to the driver but she already had one. 220 then offered to change the tire for her. The two ladies talked it over and agreed to let 220 help them out. 220 drove his truck through the grassy median and parked his truck (lights on) behind the ladies' car and started to change the tire. After he changed the tire, he placed the flat tire and the ladies' belongings into the trunk of the car and gave the driver his REACT business card.
