January 2003 Highway Reports

January 2, 2003 - 3:30pm - Unit #71 was eastbound on I-64 at McKnight Rd. when he looked at the westbound side and saw a dump truck partially blocking the slow lane. 71 turned around at the next exit, came back westbound, and stopped behind the truck with his lights on. The driver told 71 he was in the fast lane when his right front tire blew out. He then shot across all three lanes, barely missing two cars, and stopped on the narrow shoulder. After 71 got the lane shut down, the repair crew arrived and changed the tire in 15 min.

January 15, 2003 - 5:25pm - Unit #220 stopped to help a motorist on I-270 south of Clayton Rd. The driver stated that a tow truck was on the way. He had a flat but with no spare. 220 notified the Town & Country Police of the motorist and then went on his way.

January 17, 2003 - 10:00pm - Unit #220 helped change a flat tire for a motorist while stuck on I-44 west of Lewis Rd. It was for an elderly couple that were on their way out of town. They thanked 220 for his assistance.

January 17, 2003 - 11:15pm - Unit #220 assisted a stranded motorist out of fuel on I-64 west of Spoede Rd. The driver stated help was on the way. 220 stuck around and called Frontenac Police to make them aware of the situation. For 45 minutes, the driver stayed in his cold car and then his friend arrived. 220 left the scene soon afterwards.

January 28, 2003 - 8:10pm - Unit #65 was exiting onto Highway 30 from southbound I-270 when he saw a car being pushed by a teen on one of the eastbound lanes of Highway 30 over I-270. 65 stopped behind the car with his lights on. The teen pushing the car told 65 they just needed to get the car moving and they could start it. He then asked 65 if he could push the car with his bumper. 65 told him he didn't have a push bumper. 65 told him he would follow behind them with his lights on until they got the car onto the shoulder. The teen started pushing while his friend steered. The driver got the car going after about ten seconds of pushing and took off leaving his friend in the middle of the road. 65 told the teen to get in his car and they drove about 1000 feet down the road and onto a parking lot where his friend had stopped with the car. The teen thanked 65 for the ride and said they would be fine now. 65 left them on the lot.
