- 7:00pm - Unit #44, 65, and 303 were
at the Ponderosa at Lindbergh at I-55 waiting for other Tri-County
REACT members to arrive for a meeting when unit #02 radioed to 65
over GMRS that there was a stalled vehicle blocking a lane on southbound
Lindbergh in front of Ponderosa. Unit 44 and 65 pulled out and stopped
behind the car with their lights on. The female driver told 44 that
her car just died. 44 let her use his cell phone to call a friend.
The driver then put her baby in 65's car to keep warm while she
waited for her friend. While waiting, a St. Louis County Police
car pulled up behind 65. 44 explained to the officer what REACT
was and he was just helping the motorist. The officer had never
heard of REACT before and threatened to issue tickets to 44 and
65 for their actions. The officer then radioed for her supervisor
to come to the scene. Within a few minutes, a police lieutenant
arrived and told the officer about REACT and to let them go. 44
and 65 left to go back to Ponderosa and left the motorist and her
baby with the officer.
