9:15pm - Unit #65, with unit 02 riding along, stopped to check on
a motorist on the shoulder of eastbound Highway 30 just east of
West Watson Rd. The motorist told 65 he thought he was having a
problem with his fuel pump or filter. He said his wife was on the
way to pick him up and would arrive within ten minutes. 65 told
him he would remain behind him until his wife arrived. The motorist
asked 65 to recommend a dependable auto repair place in the area.
65 recommended a place in the area and gave him directions to it.
About fifteen minutes later his wife arrived and picked him up.

May
13, 2002 - 5:35pm - After assisting with a vehicle accident on southbound
I-270 at Ladue Rd, 220 heard a report of a vehicle accident on the
northbound side of I-270 just south of Ladue Rd. 220 arrived on
the scene within minutes and contacted the Missouri Highway Patrol
on his cell phone. He informed the dispatcher that there were two
separate accidents involving four vehicles but there were no injuries.
220 turned on his lights and threw out his cones to block the fast
lane of I-270. He then went up to check on the status of the people
in both accidents. Both accidents were very minor and the occupants
of both accidents were exchanging information with each other. Luckily,
each accident occurred while traffic was slow and heavy. 220 relayed
the information to the Creve Coeur Police officer from the earlier
accident and left the scene.
May
13, 2002 - 9:35pm - Unit #65 and unit 220 were on westbound I-44
exiting onto Antire Road, when 65 saw a vehicle traveling on eastbound
I-44 with a river of sparks behind it. 65 thought the vehicle had
lost a rear wheel. 65 alerted 220 (220 was ahead of him about to
get onto eastbound I-44) about the car and 220 turned on this lights
and got onto eastbound I-44. 220 caught up to the vehicle a short
distance east of Antire. The vehicle was stopped on the shoulder.
65 pulled up behind 220. The driver told 220 his muffler detached
and was dragging on the ground. The driver secured the muffler again
and was on his way.

May
13, 2002 - 10:20pm - Unit #65 assisted a teenage girl with a flat
tire on eastbound Highway 30 one mile west of I-270. The girl told
65 she had help on the way. 65 told her he would remain behind her
until her help arrived. Within three minutes, her friend arrived.
65 brought up his hydraulic jack and raised the car and her friend
changed the tire. Within ten minutes, they had the tire changed.
They thanked 65 for stopping.
May
13, 2002 - 10:20pm - Unit #220 went to check on the occupant of
a vehicle who appeared stranded at the top of the on-ramp from Meramec
Bottom Rd onto northbound I-55. The occupant explained that his
car had overheated and that 220 didn't need to stick around. 220
decided to stay with the vehicle due to the way it was parked.
May
14, 2002 - 2:45pm - Unit #220 attempted to assist a stranded motorist
(while on his way to Branson, MO for the weekend) at the top of
the on-ramp from I-270 onto westbound I-44 near Fenton. 220 was
coming down the ramp and noticed a vehicle on the shoulder very
close to the traffic lane and decided to stop and check on it. 220
approached the car and saw the female driver sitting on some rocks
and talking on a cell phone. Looking at the car, it appeared that
she had a flat tire but it was a little more severe than that (the
passengerside front wheel was completely off the vehicle and resting
between the fender and the disc brakes). The female driver got off
the phone as 220 approached and told him that her husband was on
the way with a trailer to haul the vehicle away. Within a few minutes,
the husband arrived but the vehicle could not be towed due to the
severity of the problem. 220 gave a list of towing companies to
the husband and within 30 minutes a tow truck arrived. The couple
thanked 220 for his assistance and went on their way.
May
14, 2002 - 12:35am - Unit #220 contacted the Maryland Heights Police
Department after checking out a vehicle with its flashers on at
I-270 and Page Blvd. The vehicle looked suspicious because aside
from a flat tire, the passenger side window had been shattered.
Upon closer inspection, it looked as if someone had tried to remove
the car stereo from its housing and that the same person had rifled
through the vehicles' belongings. When an officer arrived, further
review indicated that the vehicle was in an earlier wreck and that
the vehicle should be towed to a tow yard.
May
17, 2002 - 4:00pm - Unit #02 and unit #65 were on their way to Creve
Coeur Days when they came across an accident on northbound I-270
just south of I-64. There was a vehicle blocking the middle lane
and two more vehicles on the shoulder. Police and fire were not
on the scene yet. 65 and 02 stoppped in the middle lanes with their
lights on to block it. The car in the middle lane was unoccupied.
02 set out cones behind him and 65 and started waving traffic around.
A minute later a fire truck stopped in the southbound fast lane
and the firemen jumped the median wall and ran over to 02. 02 told
him he had no idea where the driver of the car was. The firemen
walked over to check on the people in the cars on the shoulder.
A minute later a Town & Country Police officer pulled up in
front of 65. 02 told him the driver of the car in the middle lane
was nowhere to be found. The officer called for a tow truck and
ran to the shoulder to talk to the other accident victims. 02 and
65 directed traffic for another ten minutes until the tow truck
arrived and removed the vehicle. The officer thanked 02 and 65 for
their help with traffic. The driver of the car apparently ran away
from the scene right after the accident.
May
19, 2002 - 5:00pm - Unit #65 and unit #220 were at Creve Coeur Days
when 65 received a call on his cell phone. Unit #02 was calling
from his work (ten miles away) and told 65 there was a huge explosion
about three blocks from him (in the city). He didn't know what was
going on. 220 and 65 looked east (towards 02) and saw a huge smoke
cloud rising hundreds of feet into the sky. Initial reports said
a plane had crashed since the smoke was a few miles from the airport.
220 and 65 immediately left the fair grounds and headed towards
the smoke. On the way to the scene, they learned 500 Jonny on the
Spot portable toilets were on fire at the company's factory. 65
and 220 arrived on the scene and helped with traffic control for
twenty minutes. It was a two alarm fire but was brought under control
within the first thirty minutes. The cause of the fire was determined
arson.
