1, 2001 - 9:55pm - Unit #65 assisted a motorist on northbound I-270
one mile north of I-44. The driver had called his parents so 65
remained behind him until they arrived.

April 3, 2001 - 9:00pm - Unit #65 assisted
a motorist with a flat tire on westbound I-44 one mile east of Antire
Road. Since there was a blind curve behind the motorist, 65 stayed
behind her with his lights on until the tow truck she called arrived
and removed the vehicle.

April 7, 2001 - 8:30pm - Unit #65 assisted
a motorist with engine trouble on the off ramp from southbound I-270
onto westbound Highway 30. 65 stayed behind the driver and his friends
until his parents arrived. They decided it would be safer to move
the car to a nearby parking lot to work on it. 65 followed them
with his lights on while they pushed the car onto the lot.

April 13, 2001 - 9:30pm - Unit #73 assisted
a motorist with a flat tire on the northbound Highway 141 bridge
directly over Highway 21. The driver was an elderly lady so 73 changed
the tire for here. The shoulder was narrow so 73 had to cone off
part of the right lane to safely change the tire. The driver thanked
73 for helping her.
April 13, 2001 - 10:50pm - Unit #65 and
#73 heard a police report over the scanner of a stranded motorist
on southbound I-270 just south of I-44. The Sunset Hills Officer
told his dispatcher that the motorist was walking away from the
vehicle and he should notify the Missouri Highway Patrol to handle
it because he was going out on a traffic stop. 65 and 73 found the
motorist walking along the highway before the Highway Patrol arrived.
65 conveyed him to a gas station about half a mile away. The Sunset
Hills Officer saw that REACT had stopped to help the motorist so
he told his dispatcher to cancel State's response.
April 20, 2001 - 8:20pm - Unit #65, with
unit #02 riding along, assisted a motorist on North Highway Drive
one mile east of Bowles Ave. The motorist wasn't broke down; she
was watching her husband walk along westbound I-44. They had a domestic
problem and he got out of the SUV and was walking home. His wife
was concerned for his safety so she asked 65 and 02 to ask him if
he would like a ride home. 65 got onto westbound I-44, stopped by
her husband, explained to him what his wife said, and asked him
if he wanted a ride home. He politely refused and continued on his
way.

April 20, 2001 - 9:45pm - Unit #65, with
unit #02 riding along, assisted a motorist with a flat tire (in
the rain) on westbound I-44 at Antire Rd. The motorist said his
friend went to buy a new tire and he was waiting for him to return.
65 offered to remain behind him until his friend returned. The driver
thanked 65 but he didn't think that was necessary.

April 21, 2001 - 9:10pm - Unit #65 was
driving east on I-44 one half mile east of Antire Road in the rain
when he witnessed a two car accident in the westbound lanes of I-44.
Not knowing if there were any injuries, 65 turned on his strobes
and drove two miles to the emergency u-turn road in the median of
the interstate. He turned around and headed back westbound to the
accident. 65 stopped behind the two vehicles (one was sideways in
the ditch) and checked on the drivers. There were no injuries and
65 remained at the scene until a Missouri State Trooper and the
Eureka Fire Dept. arrived on the scene. 65 helped the Tropper with
traffic control while they backed the car out of the ditch. The
Trooper thanked 65 for his help.



April 22, 2001 - 1:05pm - Unit #02 was
traveling on Bowles Ave. when he came upon a stalled car blocking
the right lane. The car had a dead battery so 2 turned his vehicle
against traffic to give a jump start. He got the car running again.
April 22, 2001 - 8:30pm - Unit #02 assisted
a stranded motorist on westbound Highway 30 over I-270. When he
arrived on scene, he found a elderly man confused and blocking two
lanes of traffic. The man claimed the car wouldn't go forward. Unit
02 coned off two lanes of the road. He then pushed the car over
to the side of the road and repositioned his vehicle behind it.
A Sunset Hills Police Officer arrived on the scene and asked 02
for a brief description of what happened. The Sunset Hills Officer
stated that there was no use for two vehicles to be out here so
he told 02 he could leave.
April 22, 2001 - 8:40pm - Unit #65 assisted
a motorist on eastbound I-44 just east of Bowles Ave. The motorist
and his friends were working on the engine so 65 remained behind
them with his lights on until they got it going again.

April 22, 2001 - 9:05pm - Unit #65 assisted
a motorist out of gas on northbound I-270 one mile north of I-44.
65 offered the driver his gallon of gas but she said her husband
was already one the way with some gas. 65 remained behind her until
he arrived.

April 22, 2001 - 9:15pm - Unit #220 attempted
to assist a motorist with a flat tire on I-270 south of Lemay Ferry
Rd. The driver stated that AAA had just been called so 220 stayed
with the vehicle until a tow truck arrived.
April 25, 2001 - 8:25pm - Unit #02 came
upon a car on the shoulder of westbound I-44 one mile west of Highway
141. The car was out of gas so 02 offered the driver a extra gallon.
Just then the drivers wife pulled up with a can of gas. Both of
them thanked 02 for his assistance and they where on there way.
April 25, 2001 - 8:50pm - Just as unit
#02 finished helping the motorist in the above report, he noticed
a car pull over with the hazards on about 1/4 of a mile behind him
on westbound I-44. 02 responded and noticed that a Missouri State
Highway Patrol Car was shooting radar on the other side of the highway.
No assistance was given to either stranded motorist from the Trooper.
02 stayed behind the stalled vehicle with his lights on until the
tow truck arrived.
April 25, 2001 - 8:40pm - Unit #65 assisted
a motorist on the shoulder of northbound I-270 just south of I-44.
The driver said she had already called for a tow truck. Since the
shoulder was narrow, 65 remained behind her until it arrived.

April 25, 2001 - 10:05pm - Unit #65 assisted
a motorist with an overheated radiator on westbound I-44 one half
mile east of Bowles Ave. 65 let the motorist use his container of
water to fill the radiator after it cooled down.

April 27, 2001 - 5:50am - Unit #02 assisted
a motorist on northbound I-270 just south of I-44. The motorist
told 02 he had a bad alternator and he was waiting for his friend
to return with a new one. 02 offered to stay behind him until he
returned. The motorist thanked 02 but said that wouldn't be necessary.
April 27, 2001 - 10:20pm - Unit #220 attempted
to assist a stranded motorist on I-44 just east of Stanton, Missouri.
220 came upon a truck towing a trailer with a flat tire. A passenger
in the vehicle stated that the owner just left to get a heavier
jack to lift the trailer so that the tire could be changed. Seeing
that the MSHP had just checked on it 35 minutes earlier, 220 left
the scene.
April 27, 2001 - 11:25pm - Unit #220 attempted
to assist a motorist with a flat tire on I-270 at Manchester Rd.
The driver stated that he called AAA over an hour ago, but nobody
showed up. Even with traffic down to two lanes on the southbound
side of I-270, due to construction at Dougherty Ferry Rd overpass,
nobody reported the vehicle broken down, to the local police. The
tow truck eventually came and the vehicle was towed off. The owner
lived in Troy, Missouri, roughly a 45 minute drive.
April 28, 2001 - Unit #220 attempted to
assist a motorist that was broken down on the on-ramp from Hwy 141
to westbound Hwy 40. The driver stated that the vehicle was "acting
up" and he had called his father. Twenty minutes later, the
kids had a ride and went on their way. The vehicle was left behind
on the shoulder of the on-ramp.
